Goals for 2018 as a Young Professional
With the countless resolutions everyone creates at the beginning of a New Year, creating goals as a Young Professional is equally as important as well. What do you want to accomplish for the coming year? What steps do you need to take to achieve your personal and professional goals? We’ve created a quick list to consider as you start the year and decide how you’ll spend your time. The consistent theme throughout this bog is to focus on the most important variable: yourself.
Take More Risks
Without risk there’s no reward, right?
Whether it’s leaving a job you hate, traveling somewhere new or even ending a toxic friendship, there comes a point where we all have challenges we must face. Get comfortable with being uncomfortable. Stepping out of your comfort zone allows for growth to occur, and without this we become stagnant and stuck. Take our networking event for example: we’ve had feedback from many Young Professionals who have been intimidated or skeptical to attend our events solo. However, as the event progresses and you start meeting new people, the intimidation factor wears off and you end up benefitting in the end.
What are you about? How do you want people to perceive you both personally and professionally? How do you represent yourself online and in-person? Understand what you’re good at and hone in on what you’re most passionate about. Focus on becoming an authority figure in your field – you’ll become top of mind when people are looking for experts with your specialty.
Build Your Network
Of course we had to go there! As an organization focused on bringing Young Professionals together, your network is important now more than ever. This goes beyond your immediate circle of college buddies and friends from childhood. One of the reasons we created our organization was recognizing how important it was to connect with other people and how important your network can be. It’s all about who you know,– maybe the next person you meet could be your next business partner, client or even friend!
Go All In
No matter what your goals are, giving it your all is crucial. Dedicate time to your craft and position yourself for success. Be strategic in your planning and execute on the ideas you believe will be most effective in today’s society. Go through the ups and downs, experience failure and successes, figure out your strengths and weaknesses. You’ll realize what you’re most passionate about then.
Take some “Me” time
Getting caught up in the busy-ness of life is inevitable. Living in Toronto, we’re surrounded by hustlers and people making moves. It’s easy to get overwhelmed, stressed and even burnt out. Take a step back, re-evaluate your situation and give yourself some time to relax.
With all of this being said, we hope to see you at our upcoming Young Professional Networking events. They’re a great way to meet new like-minded individuals in a relaxed atmosphere and help take the pressure off traditional networking.
